What we collect, and how deletion works

SameTide is built to hold as little about you as possible. We do not collect your name or phone number, and there is no account. Your interview answers and the story generated from them are stored under a random session ID and encrypted.

The one piece of contact information we may collect is an email, and only if you ask to be matched at the end. It is optional. We use it for one thing: to tell you when matching opens. We never use it to contact you about a crisis, and we do not sell or share it.

That email is stored separately from your story and encrypted with its own key, which meaningfully limits the damage if one store were ever breached. To be honest about the limit: it is not “unlinkable.” As the operator, we can still connect an email to a story with a database query. Other people using SameTide never see any of it.

Legal basis

If you are in the EU or UK, our basis for collecting the optional email is your explicit consent, for the single purpose of notifying you about matching. Your interview content is pseudonymous mental-health data; we do not describe it as “anonymous.”

Deleting your data

The Delete my data button removes everything tied to your current browser session, including your answers, your story, and your email, immediately and permanently.

One honest caveat: that button works from the browser where you did the interview. If you no longer have that session (for example, you used private browsing and closed the tab), we cannot match the button to your data. In that case, email privacy@sametide.com and we will find and purge your email by hand.

Provider logs and backups expire on each provider's own retention schedule after a delete.
